Surf in Taghazout: key facts

Taghazout is a small coastal village about 20 km north of Agadir that has become one of the main surf hubs in North Africa. In and around Taghazout and Taghazout Bay, there are more than ten surf spots within a short drive or even walking distance, including beach breaks, reef breaks and point breaks.

A recognized surf destination

Taghazout is regularly mentioned among the major winter surf destinations, mainly thanks to world‑class right‑hand point breaks such as Anchor Point. The area is also listed among the “top trending global destinations” for 2026, which shows how important surfing has become for its tourism and international image.

Wave season

  • High season: from October to March, with consistent north‑west swells and waves often above 1.5–2 m on the most exposed reefs and points.
  • Calmer season: from April to September, with smaller, softer waves that are ideal for beginners and longboarders.

This clear seasonality makes it easy to plan a surf trip depending on your level and what kind of waves you’re looking for.

Suitable for both beginners and advanced surfers

The immediate surroundings of Taghazout offer both mellow, sand‑bottom spots where beginners can safely learn to stand up and catch their first green waves, and more powerful reef and point breaks for intermediate and advanced surfers, such as Anchor Point and other points along the bay. This mix allows people with very different levels to share the same trip while each surfing waves that match their skills and goals.

An official World Surf League event

Every winter, Taghazout hosts the Pro Taghazout Bay, a World Surf League Qualifying Series event (QS 3000 or QS 5000 depending on the year). The contest usually runs between late February and early March and is mainly held on the right‑hand point of Anchor Point, which confirms the quality of the local waves for professional surfing.

Conclusion

Whether you’re catching your very first waves or chasing long winter point breaks, at Taghazout Life we offer surf lessons and surf guiding tailored to your level, so you can score the best conditions of the day and really progress in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
